It feels so good to be up early on my computer. This is such a regular part of my daily routine that I feel completely discombobulated when I don’t do it. For the past five days, we’ve been traveling or enjoying holiday festivities so I’ve been going to bed later than normal and sleeping until one of the boys wakes ups. While it feels good to get the extra sleep, I also know how badly I need my morning quiet time.
We had a great Christmas and I hope you did as well. For the first year ever, both Brooks and Case are at ages where they understood everything that was going on and were giddily excited. Our family spoke and lit the Advent candles at one of our church’s Christmas Eve services which was really special. At the end of the service, everyone in the entire congregation held an individual candle and sang Silent Night as the lights dimmed. It’s such a meaningful experience and both boys were able to participate this year.
Then we came home and they put on their Christmas pajamas. We made sure Santa’s cookies and the reindeer’s carrots were set out nicely. For the first year, Brooks wrote the letter to Santa. The only challenge with them being older is that it’s a bit harder to get them into bed because the excitement abounds, but we did finally.
Sweet Brooks woke up super early on Christmas morning but I convinced him to lie back down in our bed for a while once he got to look everything Santa brought. We wanted him to wait for his little brother before tearing into everything. He was so good about that. When Case woke up a little later, we all had fun playing with their new toys.
My sister, brother-in-law, and six-month old niece are in town until noon today, so here in a bit we’re going to my parents’ house with a bag of bagels from Bruegger’s to spend some final hours with them before they hit the road.
It’s hard to believe that 2016 is right around the corner. I’ve got so many goals for the upcoming year. The top three are 1). Show gratitude toward others 2). Get back into my exercising/running groove. 3). Utilize my Bullet Journal to organize my personal and professional life more efficiently. We’ll see how it all goes! I hope you have some exciting plans for 2016 as well as some goals that will help you grow personally.
Enjoy this sweet time of year between the old and the new. It’s a unique time, indeed!
