I think I’m going to start breaking my year into quarters like a business so I can create a vision, set goals and then assess my success. Otherwise, the months just seem to fly by in a flash and I look back thinking, “What did I accomplish?” or “Where did all that time go?”
Both boys have been extremely healthy for years, and in true form, they decide to get sick in the same week, one with a stomach virus and the other with strep throat. I’m thankful they have yet to contract the flu but then again, we’re not quite out of flu season. I also caught the stomach virus and let me tell you, adult vomiting is the worst. It’d been a long time since I’d felt that sensation and I’ll be more than grateful if it’s a long time before I feel it again. Just yuck.
While trying to parent sick kiddos, I’ve also been keeping up with work. We publish a newspaper, multiple magazines, guide books, real estate books, travel resources, etc. so there is never a dull moment at my office. And when I’m out for even one day, there’s a lot to catch up on. I’ve also got my own stuff I’m working on, including a couple of books and writing for the TODAY Parenting Team. I haven’t been on Zealous Mom in a while, and I miss it. This is the space where my writing career all started and when I neglect it, it makes me sad. But there are only so many hours in a day, you know?
We’re in the season of Lent. This year, Matthew and I decided to give up gluten. It’s been a little over a week and we can already feel positive physical changes. I don’t have a gluten allergy, but too much of the gunk makes me feel lethargic and puffy. I’m feeling good about giving it up. We attended the Southern Conference basketball tournament last weekend and had VIP tickets. In the VIP area, they offered sliders, gourmet chicken tenders, Southern macaroni and cheese, a plethora of cakes and rolls, and because of Lent, we had to deny ourselves.
And good thing I’m eating healthy because I’ve had zero time to exercise lately. We ran a 10K in late February and I followed the training plan religiously, but as soon as that race was over, I fell back into my hit-or-miss routine. I love working out, but finding the time is almost impossible, especially in the world of single parenting when I can barely find time to shower.
We’ve had a couple warmish sunny days this week and that has done wonders for my mood. This winter has felt like an eternity and I’m so sick of wearing leggings and boots. I’m ready to need sunglasses and see my toenails.
Our Disney Cruise is in 15 days, which is so crazy. It feels like yesterday we were just in the planning stages and now it’s already here. I’m going to have to find some sunscreen somewhere and dig up everyone’s bathing suits. Let me add that to my very long list of to-do items.
Both boys are still sleeping. It’s a school morning, but with sickness, one is missing and one is checking in late. I’m hopeful wellness vibes will bless this house and everyone will be 100 percent very soon.
I hope you are well and have some exciting things to look forward to in your near future. Here’s to a wonderful weekend! And hopefully we’ll all see at least a little sunshine.
