After almost eight years of Zealous Mom, I still get new blog readers each day who I’ve never met or who are curious about other areas of my life. Every now and then, it’s fun to complete these A to Z life surveys to offer a bit of information. Also, in the early days of blogging, before we were creating sponsored posts and helping brands promote products, bloggers posted a lot of fun surveys and anecdotal stories. It’s fun to step back in time. So, here goes!
A – Age: 39 (I’ll be 40 on October 23)
B – Best concert: Sheesh, this one is tough. My all-time top four favorite concerts are Elton John, Coldplay, Lumineers and Trampled by Turtles.
C – Current Time: 6:20 a.m.
D – Drink I last had: Coffee (it is 6:20 in the morning, after all)
E – Exciting upcoming event: This weekend my boyfriend, Matthew, and I are headed to Bristol TN/VA to the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Festival. Yes, there is a slash between the two states. The town of Bristol falls exactly on the line between the two states so it’s delineated as TN/VA.
F – Favorite quote: I have so many favorite quotes, but a quote that’s been going through my mind lately is, “We’re all broken. That’s how the light gets in.” Some say it’s by Hemingway, others say Leonard Cohen. Whoever said it, I love it.
G – Grossest thing: Weird smells
H – Hometown: Weaverville, NC (a small town north of Asheville)
I – In awe of: The way children truly enjoy life
J – Jealous of: The skin of girls in their early 20s
K – Kind of music you love: Singer-songwriter, indie, Americana Folk
L – Longest vacation: In college I backpacked in Europe for four weeks; the first two weeks with a friend and the second two with my sister. If I could do it again, I would have studied abroad for an entire semester. Young people, take advantage of being young. Travel the world before life settles you down.
M – Mom joy: At the ages my boys are (10 and 7), I love watching them develop skills and learn what they’re good at. It’s my job to foster and encourage them in these areas so they live a fulfilling life with a career they love.
N – Number of siblings: One sister, Savannah, who lives in DC with my brother-in-law and two nieces. I miss her constantly. We’re very close and wish we lived nearer to one another.
O – One wish: That bad people would stop stealing innocence from children
P – Pilates or yoga? Both. I love pilates for core training and yoga for centering/relaxing.
Q – Question you’re always asked: My eyes are a weird color so people always ask me if I’m wearing contact.
R – Reason to smile: Fall is in the air
S – Soccer fan or non-fan? I have not always been a soccer fan, but since my boys have started playing, I’ve become a fan. I had so much fun watching the women’s World Cup. Didn’t we all!?
T – Time you woke up: 5:50 a.m.
U – Ultimate fitness goal: To do another triathlon, maybe a marathon one day
V – Vacation destination: We’re heading to NYC in December. It’s a Christmas/birthday gift for my boys.
W – Worst habit: Procrastinating
X – X-rays you’ve had: Chest, arm, MRI
Y – Your favorite holiday: It used to be Christmas but since my mom passed away and the divorce happened, all holidays are hard. I guess Christmas is still my favorite, but I’ve been trying to settle into the entire Advent season as opposed to focusing on the two days surrounding Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Z – Zodiac sign: I’m a Scorpio through and through!
There you go. These surveys are really fun to complete, even if you don’t have a blog of your own. They are also a great ice breaker or starter activity for functions and parties. Happy Thursday, my friends. The weekend starts tomorrow!
