For my birthday last year, I completed a post titled 34 in 34 and wrote about 34 things that happened to me in my 34th year. I’ve decided to do the same for our boys each year as we celebrate their birthdays.
Today our sweet Brooks turns six-years old which is so hard to comprehend! He’s such a unique little boy. He loves people and cares deeply. He’s very attuned to others’ emotions which can be good and bad sometimes. He’s not into typical boy stuff such as superheroes and sports and Ninja Turtles. He’s into collecting items such as gems, snow globes, rubber bands, even the R&W Berries figurines from the 1970s. Brooks adores his family and his friends and his teachers. Even though he’s sweet down to his core, he’s a fierce competitor and does not like to lose. He’s working on sharing with Little Brother and comprehending that it feels better to give and share than hoard and keep things to oneself.
As we celebrate his special day today, I just want to say that I am so in love with him, as every mom is with her child. He brings so much life and spirit and depth to my life. Below are five special things that have happened to him in his fifth year along with some pictures (many more than 5) highlighting special moments and events. It’s been a pivotal year for him, and we are so proud to call him ours.
1. Learned to ride a bike.
2. Graduated preschool.
3. Learned to swim.
4. Started kindergarten.
5. Began reading music when playing his violin.
Others: first time bowling, first kiss (peck with a kindergarten classmate), first time snowboarding, got a BB gun from Uncle Dean, ran his first race, and more.
