Children are so interesting. Whether we put our three-year old to bed at 7:30 pm or 10:00 pm, he still wakes up at 6:45 almost on the dot. We went to Dollywood yesterday and didn’t get home until 9:30, so the boys went to bed much, much later than normal. I got up early to finish a newspaper column and at 6:45, my little monkey comes waddling out, bright-eyed carrying his blankie over his shoulder. Ready for a new day.
So now he and I are hanging out on the couch watching classic Tom & Jerry. I have to truly keep today’s stream of consciousness writing to 5-7 minutes so I can put this computer away and snuggle. We’ll probably all suffer later from him missing two hours of sleep on the front end, but right now he’s as cheerful as can be.
Our six-year old will probably sleep until 8:00. He will sleep later when we go to bed later. I’m not sure when that switch happens. But new parents should keep in mind that “sleeping in” does not typically happen with babies, toddlers and young preschoolers, even if you put them to bed later, but eventually children will sleep in (kind of).
Today we are planting our garden. I am so excited. We don’t plant a ton of vegetables, just the ones we use the most. A variety of tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuce. We’re also cleaning up our yard, hanging a new hammock and possibly buying new chairs for our back deck because our current ones look like raccoons spend their evenings chewing on the cushions. We also have a small hummingbird feeder we’re going to put out. Brooks and I made homemade nectar the other day, so we’ll see how it works.
My stream of consciousness writing time is up. Hope you and yours have a wonderful Saturday and a fabulous Mother’s Day tomorrow!
