I’m blogging in the car on the way to a big swim meet in Charlotte. Whenever I work online while traveling, I feel like I’m on The Jetsons or something. Crazy how far we’ve come with technology in the past couple of decades.
Our seven-year old Brooks has a big swim invitational in Charlotte this weekend. My husband’s family lives about 30 minutes from Charlotte, so we’re staying with his mom this weekend. And guess what? As we were prepping to leave on Friday, we got word that our oldest niece was in labor with her baby daughter. She was born yesterday afternoon weighing in at 8lbs and 13oz with a head of beautiful black hair and full rosy lips.
We stopped by the hospital last night to hang out with little our niece, her husband, and Baby McKenna. It brought back so many memories of me being in the hospital with my two little monkeys who are unbelievably turning five and eight next week. The boys were completely enamored with the littlest family member. Case whispered, “Mommy, she looks just like a baby doll.” So sweet.
Now we’re on our way to the swim meet. Warm-ups start at noon. Brooks is a bit nervous considering this is only his second really big meet and we are going into the lion’s den of North Carolina swimming, so it’s probably going to feel pretty intense. I’m trying to act nonchalant, but I think I’m as nervous as he is. He’s swimming several events he’s never swam and the age category is 10 & under, so at age seven, he’s one of the youngest and is competing against bigger, faster swimmers. But I’m just so proud of him and his hard work. We keep telling him to focus on beating his own times and not worry about the other swimmers, but he’s competitive by nature so even if we tell him that, I’m not sure it’s sinking in.
Lastly, my good friend from high school has started a baby/children’s clothing company. She is an insanely talented seamstress, holistic mom, and wonderful person. Her items have a unique style I haven’t seen anywhere. I had to share. Her line is called Rhinos and Ruffles. Below is one of her latest items. She makes all kinds of items, and her leotards are to die for. You can find her on Facebook, Instagram at, and Etsy.
I hope you all are having a fantastic Saturday. We’re almost at the swim meet, so I’ve gotta sign off and focus on my boy. Go SMAC!
