I love living in a small town because when one of our schools, businesses, or organizations hosts an event, the community truly supports it. The Color Run at Clyde Elementary this past weekend was no exception. I didn’t attend this school nor have I worked there nor will my children go there, but because our close-knit school system works to support one another, no matter the school, Brooks and I decided to make a date of it. We had an absolute blast!
Brooks loves to run, but this was his first actual race/run. When we arrived, the atmosphere was super fun and festive with face painting, a live band, and a photo booth, which was the coolest thing ever!
I honestly thought we would walk most of the way, but it’s amazing how children can surprise you. We held hands through the entire race, something I will never forget, and out of the 3.2 miles, we probably only walked 1/2 of a mile. We giggled and laughed as we ran and got smacked in the face with paint. It was certainly medicine for the soul.
I know we’re lucky to live in the Blue Ridge Mountains, but I often take them for granted. I don’t think about them all that much, but every now and then, I actually stop to think about how breathtaking they are. As we were running, I looked to the side and couldn’t believe the picturesque view on our route.
Overall, we had an absolute ball. Not only was it fun, but it was a really special day for me and my boy. I hope Clyde Elementary was happy with the turnout, and we look forward to joining them again next year!
